It is with profound regret that we have to inform you of the death of our founder, Anne Finch, which occurred on the 5th August 2018. Anne passed away peacefully at the Earl Mountbatten Hospice IOW at the age of seventy-five.

Anne was loved and respected by all those concerned in Greyhound welfare and by a host of people in the wider animal rescue and protection field. It was she who brought the appalling abuse of Spanish hunting greyhounds (galgos) to the attention of the caring public in Europe and worldwide.

Anne Finch

After some years of untiring work and self-sacrifice Anne, together with her husband Arthur, founded the charity Greyhounds in Need (GIN) twenty years ago, with the principal aim of rescuing, treating and homing ex-racing greyhounds and Spanish galgos. GIN is proud to say that this vital work continues to grow and we now make possible the rescue and rehoming of around 700 of these beautiful dogs every year as well as providing funding to improve rescue centres in Spain and now pushing forward with an expanding education programme in Spanish schools.

Here at GIN we are very conscious that we do this work in the name of Anne Finch who will always be remembered by a host of supporters to whom she was such an inspiration.

We know that we will be joined by countless friends and colleagues in remembering with pride the life achievements of a remarkable lady.

Anne’s funeral will be on Thursday 6th September, at 1.15pm at Holy Trinity Church, Church Road, Bembridge, Isle of Wight, PO35 5NA.

Anne requested that people do not wear black, but brighter colours such as blue and yellow. After the Service, everyone is warmly invited to refreshments at Bembridge Sailing Club, Embankment Road, Bembridge PO35 5NR. Greyhounds and other quietly behaved dogs will be welcome at the Funeral Service. (Please note that dogs cannot then be accommodated inside Bembridge Sailing Club).

Any donations can kindly be made at the Church Service or be made payable to the Parkinson’s Disease Society, to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice or to the Motor Neurone Disease Association and sent to Weaver Brothers Ltd., Funeral Directors, Lane End Road, Bembridge, Isle of Wight PO35 5UE.
