Dear Friends, December 2025
I cannot believe we will soon be coming to the end of yet another busy year at GIN HQ. Putting this bulletin together has given me the opportunity to look back over the year at our work.
Thanks to the very generous and kind donations from our supporters, donors, and followers we have been able to continue to offer funding (veterinary/boarding/transport) enabling many galgos and greyhounds to be rescued, transported and adopted in the UK and Europe.
Our support to the shelters in Spain continues, they work tirelessly rescuing and caring for the many galgos. We continue to offer funding for specific projects at the shelters and earlier this year we funded a brand new puppy block for Galgos Rescue Almeria. Sandy explained they had no way of separating the adult dogs from the puppies so they wanted to create a separate place with a play area for them to socialise together away from the other dogs. In the Summer we paid for some awnings to be fitted to give much needed shade for the puppies.
Earlier this year we were approached by a shelter called LovingDogs for some help with the galgos they rescue. They are based in the Cartagena region of Spain and offer a safe home to the dogs they receive, while they look for a warm, lasting home for each of them. We sent them some care packages containing donated dog coats, towels, blankets etc. of which they were truly grateful. We agreed to help them going forward and we have been able to give some funding towards the veterinary costs involved for the galgos they rescue. Here are some photos of the dogs we have helped so far and we look forward to working with them in the future.
The education programme continues to do well in Spain and we are pleased to support the rescue centres as much as we can. Last year Tina, who runs Galgos del Sol, contacted us as they were starting to investigate building a school on wheels so they could travel around Spain and reach more children. They were able to purchase a suitable van to convert into a mobile classroom and we have been able to offer funding towards the costs involved in the conversion. The fantastic new school bus Galgoteca has been a great success for Tina and her team at Galgos Del Sol. Sam has been busy bringing their education programme about galgos and welfare to even more children throughout the Summer.
Anna at SOS Galgos has been incredibly busy with her education programme and held lots of workshops at the centre before the schools closed for the Summer. The children enjoy attending the classes on animal welfare and being hands on with the rescued galgos.
GIN supports rescue shelters by funding education classrooms and equipment, transportation for school visits, and the provision of an education programme through a dedicated website. https://education.greyhoundsinneed.co.uk/
All our education materials are free to download.
We wish you, your families, and your dogs a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.,
