Those of you who were lucky enough to join December 2007
those monthly hikes across the forest, will no
doubt, like me, have some very fond memories
of lovely romps across beautiful countryside,
the odd bog wading incident and some greyt
post walk, social pub lunches. In 2011, walks at
the very beautiful site of Hengistbury Head
were introduced and eventually this became our
main walking venue for a number of years. This was also around the time that
the walks were also taken over to be led by Peter and Val Crawley.

In 2013 we celebrated our tenth
anniversary, again with a picnic after
                                                                  Grant
our walk. This was held at the lovely
                                             Upton Country Park, which became
our regular walk venue in 2014. Peter
and Val led the walks for a very long
time, up until fairly recently, when
                                             their sadly deteriorating health
                                             made this difficult. However
amazingly Peter was still walking with
10th Anniversary walk 2013 us, until almost the end of his life at
Hi Carolyn, good to hear from you. Yes
a grand age of 92 last year!
this summer has been way to hot, but
Over the years we have enjoyed raising a wonderful amount in donations for
luckily living near the sea I’ve been able
Greyhounds In Need. Helping many adopted hounds with their socialisation
to take my Jake to the sea to cool us
skills, and their owners with good advice, forming great friendships, having a
both off (I’m an all year round cold wa-
number of good laughs, sharing a few tears, sharing Christmas pub lunches,
anniversary picnics and our love for these very special hounds.
As Peter wished, I hope they continue for a long time yet.

If you’d like to join us if you are local, or even on holiday in the area, you are
very welcome. We walk at Upton Country Park, Poole, Dorset, on the first
Sunday of the month at 11.00am. Details can be found on our Facebook Page –
Greyhounds in Need, Upton Country Park Walkers.

I’d Like to dedicate this article to all those, who over the years have made so
many special memories, especially Peter, Mollie, Shirley and all the wonderful
       hounds.
