Greyhounds In Need Social Charity Walks, Twenty First Anniversary.

On the 1st September 2024, The Greyhounds
in Need Social Charity Walk Group
celebrated our twenty first anniversary. We

have walked every first Sunday of the month
for twenty one years, with the exception of
      Lockdown. Quite an achievement!
Despite a yellow weather warning and the
threat of heavy thunderstorms, we were
once again lucky with the weather and the
morning stayed dry, although very muggy.

                       A good number of regular
walkers and their paws were joined by some very welcome new
faces to celebrate. The dogs all began the celebrations with a
tasty sausage, whilst greetings were made and donations
given. (A certain Birthday hound may have had two, as he was
doubly celebrating! It being his sixth
                      birthday.)

Before the walk started a short speech, summarising the
auspicious occasion was given by myself as current walk leader. Which included
the walks’ short potted history, remembering past hounds and members, along
                                          .
with thanks given to the previous walk leaders.
The shortened walk, because of the weather, involved a slight detour to our

normal route to avoid another group of, very yappy this time, sausages. This
was followed by a picnic on the back lawn of Upton House, where the hounds
enjoyed more sausages and the humans had cake.

The walks were begun in September 2003 by a lovely couple called Andy and
Kate. (What a wonderful gift they gave us!) They were first held at various
locations across the stunning New Forest. In 2006, the September of which,
my husband and I first joined the walks with our first greyhound, Eddie,
adopted via GIN. Andy and Kate passed on the baton of walk leaders, when
they became first time parents, to the very able Mollie and Keith White and
their lovely big hairy Lurcher, Casper.
