The Story of Mike
Since the beginning of the
current crisis, all the Spanish
shelters have been and are still
under great strain and, in April,
GIN received an urgent request
from ADANA of Badajoz for
financial help with a young galgo
called Mike.
Mike, a young, two-year-old,
long haired galgo, had spent
many months surviving as best
he could in the countryside,
hobbling on three legs, until he approached a local farm where the
farmer took pity and started feeding him. The farmer eventually
contacted ADANA who took Mike in.
Mike had a limp, grade 5/5 and couldn’t put his rear right foot down
due to an old, very complicated and untreated fracture of the femur.
The fact that Mike was hobbling on 3 legs and unable to hunt was
probably why his owner/hunter threw him out.
ADANA took Mike to the vet
where he had 2 leg operations
which went well but due to bad
muscle wasting and shortening
over the previous months,
Mike had to have a period of
intensive physiotherapy to help
the muscles recover and be able
to put his right leg down again.
ADANA asked if GIN would
be able to help with Mike’s
veterinary costs and we are
pleased to say that we were able to pay them in full.
We, at GIN, are always extremely grateful to all our supporters for
their very kind and generous donations, be they large or small, as they
make it possible for us to support the shelters’ requests for help.
Every penny counts!!
