Update on the new shelter in Caceres, Extremadura
Last June, Trustee Leigh and I visited the
site of a new shelter being built in Caceres,
a city in Western Spain’s Extremadura
region. The group building the shelter,
Asociacion Cacereña para La Protección y
Defensa de Los Animales, had contacted
GIN to see if we could possibly help them
with the build. They had been fundraising
and saving for many years to be able to buy
the 5 hectares site chosen for the shelter. After meetings with them, we felt
we would be able to help. Since our visit last year, they have kept us updated
with the progress of the shelter and they hope to be open in the next two or
three months. Exciting times!
As you will see from the
photos, the site is going from
a plot of land to a shelter and
the group is determined to
make it as self-sufficient as
possible.
Together with help from volunteers, the group has
worked very hard clearing the land, planting trees and preparing it all for the
build.
