The most common uses of acupuncture in animals are
• Pain management: soft tissue injury, neural pain, neck/back/hip pain,
arthritis, IVDD etc
• Skin issues: allergy related dermatitis, non healing wounds, recurrent ear
infections etc
• Cancer treatment/ palliative treatment
• Behavioural problems
• Geriatric patients, supportive treatment
• Respiratory problems: asthma etc
• Urinary incontinence
Animals tolerate acupuncture pretty well. The needles will be staying on
inbetween 2-15 min on each session. When needling, generally, there is no pain
involved with the insertion of the needle. But sometimes if they are painful on
the particular area or are very shy, there will be more sensitivity over
the acupuncture point, in which other points are selected in those cases.
Each individual animal is assessed separately, and different treatment
protocols are followed in each session.
In general, with each session, the animal becomes calmer and even more
tolerant over the session.
