World galgo day takes place every year on the
1st February and marks the end of the hunting
season which lasts from October to January in
Spain. Unfortunately so many galgos are often
abandoned or killed after their usefulness as a
hunting dog is over.
Also, this day can help people realize just how
much danger Galgos are in, which may lead to
more people getting involved in saving and
rehoming them.
One of our members Lesley Wilson attended a march organised by NAC, for
the third year in a row this year. This took place on the 2nd February 2025 in
Alicante and she met up there with Julie and Jack from El Arca Santuary in
Crevillente, Spain and also Rafael from Galgos del Sol, Murcia Spain. Lesley
kindly shared the photos below with Greyhounds in Need.
We continue to keep busy here at GIN HQ and I would like to say thank you to
Maria and Trustee Geraldine for all the help and support they give me in the
office. I also extend my thanks to all the Trustees for their continued
support during challenging times and to Carolyn who is still a big part of GIN
and always at the end of the phone if I should need to pick her mountain of
knowledge.
I would also like to thank our local volunteers who come to the office regularly
to help with all sorts of jobs. Believe you me no two days are ever the same
here!
It remains for me to say a very big thank you to all of you, our supporters for
all your help over the years helping us achieve what we have for the lovely
greyhounds and galgos.
Wishing you all a great Spring and Summer with your families and your dogs.
