TRIBUTES
                                                              TRIBUTES

                     Micky

I’m writing to let you know that Micky my lovely galgo, sadly
had to be put to sleep after a short illness. We had him
since February 2012 and it was Valentines day. He loved
playing with his doggy friends and he had a very gentle
nature. He brought so much joy to all age groups alike.
He is very sadly missed by all that knew him xxx

                    Tribute to Marisa 2014 - 2023
Marisa was the first greyhound we had ever owned. Anne Finch ( the co-founder of
Greyhounds in Need) became a very good friend in the latter part of her life and it was Anne
who, unknowingly transferred her love of the breed to me.

On my first visit to the GIN kennels, I was introduced to a bouncing bundle of long legged
brindle fur and I was smitten. Of course, I had to give her a home but would she, who had
never lived in one, settle with strangers to life on the Isle of Wight. Would she ever! She was
clean from the first, quiet at night and ready and waiting for her morning walk on a lead round
Bembridge with Robin my husband. If she could have put the lead on herself she would have
done so. We loved her energy, willingness to join in as well her quiet approval and loving
stare as she fitted in with any and all of our plans. Quite simply, we loved her to bits. Her
exploits on the beach as she zoomed past her admirers, elicited the remark which has gone
down in our annuals “ It’s like watching the 3.30 at Romford!”
We had her just short of 2 years before an unusual type of incurable cancer took hold. We
fought with her a long battle against an implacable enemy, taking her to a specialist hospital in
Hampshire every few weeks for chemotherapy. She took it all in her stride even wagging her
tail when she recognised the vet coming to give her treatments. After two years of chemo, we
thought we might have won a reprieve but she suddenly started to go downhill, became
lethargic and finally stopped eating. She was a
shadow of her former self but still affectionate as
ever. On 30 October she was put to sleep to end
                 th
her suffering. Ours began at that moment and we
are still haunted by the lack of her presence.
For us there will never be a finer breed of canine.
Robin and I count it a privilege to have owned
such a wonderful animal. She leaves behind her
faithful friend Bono who was constantly at her
         side.
Judy and Robin, Isle of Wight.
