Dear Friends,

We are pleased to report, and are very grateful, that the groups we have worked with for some time now in Belgium, France, Italy and Slovenia continue to find homes for the galgos we can help in Spain. We now also work with another group in France—Association de Sauvetage des Lévriers, run by Jacqueline and Max, who are helping us by taking galgos from Vic for homing and we are again able to home galgos in Switzerland thanks to Manuela of Lévriers Swiss Adoptions.

We continue to support the refuges in Spain throughout the year by sending many parcels of coats, blankets, dog bowls, medicines etc, kindly donated by our supporters.

For some time now, as mentioned in our last European Message, we have been feeling our way towards setting up an education programme in Spain, aimed at young schoolchildren, in an attempt to instil in them an understanding of the needs of all animals as sentient beings and also a realisation of the dire plight of Spanish galgos.

This will have to start in a small way and the first drafts of the teaching materials will be available soon, ready for us to discuss the whole scheme in detail with our Spanish colleagues, many of whom devote their lives to rescuing animals in distress, and it is these good people we try to help. The experience of many animal welfare groups teaches us that it is to the rising generation that we must turn if any lasting good is to be achieved.

We are taking this initiative to mark the 10th anniversary of GIN. When we look back it is pleasing to see how much our work has expanded in that time. In the last 10 years we have successfully rescued and found homes for several thousand dogs with the help of many Spanish volunteers who carry out primary rescue work, and the homing groups and individuals in  Europe who, in sympathy with our work, are promoting adoption in their own countries. This has only been made possible by the extraordinary generosity of you, our supporters. 

Here in the UK the Animals Act of 2006 called for a new regulatory system and welfare regulations for racing. The new governing body is to be called the Greyhound Board of Great Britain and is currently being set up and should be in operation early in 2009. We await the new regulations, which will go out to consultation soon. The Greyhound Forum, of which GIN is a member, submitted draft proposals and we can only hope these will be implemented.

Chers amis,

Nous avons le plaisir de vous informer que les groupes avec lesquels nous travaillons depuis quelques temps en Belgique, en France, en Italie et en Slovénie continuent à trouver des foyers pour les lévriers galgos que nous aidons en Espagne et nous leur en sommes très reconnaissants. Nous travaillons désormais avec un autre groupe français, l’Association de Sauvetage des Lévriers, dirigée par Jacqueline et Max. Ils nous aident en récupérant des galgos auprès de Vic pour leur trouver un foyer et nous pouvons à nouveau les accueillir en Suisse grâce à Manuela de l'association Lévriers Swiss Adoptions.

Tout au long de l’année, nous apportons notre soutien aux refuges espagnols en envoyant des colis contenant des manteaux, des couvertures, des bols, des médicaments, etc. gentiment donnés par nos supporters.

Comme mentionné dans notre dernière lettre d’informations européenne, depuis quelques temps, nous avons tenté d’établir un programme d’éducation en Espagne destiné aux jeunes écoliers afin de leur faire comprendre les besoins de tous les animaux en tant qu'êtres sensibles et également de leur faire réaliser le sort affreux des galgos espagnols.

Ce programme devra commencer à une petite échelle et les premiers projets de documents d’éducation seront bientôt disponibles pour que nous puissions discuter en détails du programme global avec nos collègues espagnols dont beaucoup ont voué leurs vies à porter secours aux animaux en détresse. Ce sont ces personnes de bonne volonté que nous tentons d’aider. L’expérience de la plupart des groupes s’occupant du bien-être des animaux nous apprend que la nouvelle génération doit être notre priorité pour espérer obtenir des résultats durables.

Nous profitons de cette occasion pour célébrer le 10^ème anniversaire de GIN. Quand nous regardons en arrière, nous sommes ravis de constater l’étendue de notre travail pendant cette période. Au cours des dix dernières années, nous sommes parvenus à sauver et à trouver un foyer à plusieurs milliers de chiens avec l’aide de nombreux volontaires espagnols qui réalisent le travail de sauvetage préliminaire. Les groupes d’accueil et les volontaires répartis en Europe, qui sympathisent avec notre travail, font la promotion de l’adoption dans leurs propres pays. Ce travail a pu être accompli uniquement grâce à votre générosité extraordinaire.

Au Royaume-Uni, la loi sur les animaux de 2006 nécessitait un nouveau cadre réglementaire et de nouvelles règles pour le bien-être des animaux de course. Le nouvel organisme en charge devrait s’appeler le « Greyhound Board of Great Britain » (Comité des lévriers de Grande Bretagne). Il est actuellement en phase de constitution et devrait être opérationnel au début de l’année 2009. Nous attendons ces nouvelles réglementations qui feront bientôt l’objet d’une consultation. Le Forum des Lévriers dont GIN est membre a soumis des propositions et nous espérons qu’elles seront mises en œuvre.

Liebe Freunde,

wir freuen uns und sind dankbar dafür, Ihnen mitteilen zu können, dass die Gruppen, mit denen wir nun in Belgien, Frankreich, Italien und Slowenien einige Zeit zusammengearbeitet haben, ihre Suche nach einem Zuhause für die Windhunde fortsetzen und uns so in Spanien helfen können. Wir arbeiten jetzt in Frankreich mit einer weiteren Gruppe, nämlich der von Jacqueline und Max geleiteten Association de Sauvetage des Lévriers, zusammen. Sie helfen uns, indem sie für Windhunde von Vic ein neues Zuhause finden. Außerdem sind wir dank Manuela von Lévriers Swiss Adoptions wieder in der Lage, Windhunden in der Schweiz ein Zuhause zu finden.

Wir werden weiterhin während des ganzen Jahres die spanischen Zufluchtstätten unterstützen, indem wir viele Pakete mit Mänteln, Decken, Hundenäpfen, Arzneien etc. versenden, die uns freundlicherweise von Helfern gespendet wurden.

Seit einiger Zeit nun, wie bereits in unserer letzten europäischen Mitteilung erwähnt, erforschen wir in Spanien die Entwicklung eines auf junge Schüler zugeschnittenes Schulungsprogramm, das versucht, ihnen ein Verständnis für die Bedürfnisse von allen Tieren als empfindsame Lebewesen und eine Einsicht in die schreckliche Notlage der spanischen Windhunde zu vermitteln.

Dieses Programm wird in kleinem Rahmen beginnen und die ersten Entwürfe des Lehrmaterials werden demnächst zur Verfügung stellen. So sind wir dann in der Lage, den gesamten Plan mit unseren spanischen Kollegen, von denen viele ihr Leben der Rettung von in Not geratenen Tieren widmen, im Detail zu erörtern. Wir werden damit diesen guten Menschen helfen können. Die Erfahrung vieler Tierschutzgruppen lehrt uns, dass wir uns an die junge Generation wenden müssen, wenn wir einen dauerhaften Erfolg erzielen wollen.

Wir nehmen diese Initiative als Anlass des 10. Jahrestages von GIN. Rückblickend ist es erfreulich, wie sehr sich unsere Arbeit in dieser Zeit ausgeweitet hat. In den letzten 10 Jahren haben wir mit der Hilfe von spanischen Freiwilligen, welche die ersten Rettungsmaßnahmen einleiten sowie den Vermittlungsgruppen und Einzelpersonen in Europa, die mit unserer Tätigkeit sympathisieren und die Adoption in ihre eigenen Länder vorantreiben, erfolgreich einige tausend Hunde gerettet und für sie ein Zuhause gefunden. Dies war nur durch die außergewöhnliche Großzügigkeit von Ihnen, unseren Helfern, möglich.

Hier, im Vereinigten Königreich, verlangt das Tierschutzgesetz von 2006 nach einem neuen Regelwerk sowie Schutzmechanismen bei Rennen. Der neue Dachverband wird als Greyhound Board (Windhund-Ausschuss) Großbritanniens bezeichnet und befindet sich derzeit in Gründung. Anfang 2009 wird dieser Ausschuss seine Tätigkeit aufnehmen. Wir erwarten die neuen Verordnungen, über die in Kürze beraten werden kann. Das Greyhound Forum (Windhund-Forum), wo GIN Mitglied ist, hat Entwürfe eingereicht, sodass wir nur darauf hoffen können, dass diese Berücksichtigung finden.

Estimados amigos,

Nos complace informaros y a la vez expresar nuestro agradecimiento al saber que los grupos con los que hemos trabajado durante cierto tiempo en Bélgica, Francia, Italia y Eslovenia siguen encontrando casas para los galgos que podemos ayudar en España. Ahora trabajamos además con otro grupo en Francia Association de Sauvetage des Lévriers, dirigido por Jacqueline y Max, que nos están ayudando a sacar a los galgos de Vic para darles hogar y de nuevo podemos ofrecer un hogar a los galgos en Suiza gracias a Manuela de la fundación Lévriers Swiss Adoptions.

Hemos seguido brindando apoyo durante todo el año para los refugios de España, enviándoles numerosos paquetes con abrigos, mantas, platos de comida para perros, medicinas etc., que nuestros numerosos seguidores han tenido la bondad de donar.

Hace ya algún tiempo, como mencionábamos en nuestro último mensaje europeo, que venimos pensando en la forma de establecer un programa educativo en España, dirigido a escolares con el fin de inculcar en ellos un entendimiento de las necesidades de todos los animales como seres sensibles y también para que se conciencien de la alarmante situación que padecen los galgos españoles.

Esto tendrá que empezar en pequeñas proporciones y los primeros borradores de los materiales de enseñanza estarán disponibles pronto, listos para que podamos examinar todo el esquema en detalle con nuestros compañeros españoles, muchos de los cuales han dedicado sus vidas al rescate de animales en peligro, y es a estas bondadosas personas a las que intentamos ayudar. La experiencia de muchos grupos del bienestar de los animales nos ha enseñado que debemos enfocarnos en las nuevas generaciones si queremos lograr buenos resultados duraderos.

Estamos llevando a cabo esta iniciativa para conmemorar el décimo aniversario de GIN. Cuando volvemos la vista atrás nos complace ver como se ha extendido nuestro trabajo durante ese tiempo. En los últimos 10 años hemos conseguido rescatar y dar hogar a millares de perros con la ayuda de voluntarios españoles que llevan a cabo trabajo de rescate primordial y los grupos de hogares y las personas en Europa que simpatizan con nuestro trabajo y están fomentan la adopción en sus propios países. Esto sólo ha sido posible gracias a la extraordinaria generosidad de todos vosotros, nuestros seguidores.

Aquí en el Reino Unido la ley de Animales de 2006 “Animals Act of 2006” ha exigido un nuevo sistema regulador y regulaciones del bienestar para las carreras. El nuevo organismo rector se llamará Greyhound Board of Great Britain y actualmente está siendo establecido y entrará en operación a principios de 2009. Estamos esperando las nuevas regulaciones que irán a consulta pronto. El Greyhound Forum, del cual GIN es miembro, presentó un borrador de las propuestas y esperamos que sean implementadas.

Beste vrienden,

Met genoegen melden wij dat de groeperingen waarmee we nu reeds enige tijd samenwerken in België, Frankrijk, Italië en Slovenië zich blijven inzetten om een thuis te vinden voor de galgo's in Spanje die we kunnen helpen. We zijn hen daar heel dankbaar voor. We werken nu ook samen met een andere groep in Frankrijk—Association de Sauvetage des Lévriers, onder leiding van Jacqueline en Max. Zij helpen ons om galgo's van Vic over te nemen en een thuis voor hen te zoeken. Dankzij Manuela van Lévriers Swiss Adoptions kunnen we in Zwitserland ook weer galgo's plaatsen.

We zetten ook onze steun aan de asielen in Spanje het hele jaar verder door vele pakketten met jassen, dekens,  voederbakken, geneesmiddelen enz. te sturen die onze sympathisanten ons schenken. 

Zoals we in ons laatste Europese bericht vermeldden, werken we al enige tijd aan een schoolprogramma voor jonge schoolgaande kinderen om hen op die manier begrip bij te brengen voor de noden van alle dieren en hen ook bewust te maken van de uiterst benarde positie waarin de Spaanse galgo's zich bevinden. 

Dit project zal op kleine schaal moeten starten en de eerste pakketten lesmateriaal zullen binnenkort beschikbaar zijn, zodat we het volledige schema in detail kunnen bespreken met onze Spaanse collega's. Vele van hen zetten zich volledig in voor het redden van dieren in nood en het zijn deze goede mensen die we proberen te helpen. De ervaring van vele dierenwelzijngroeperingen leert ons dat we ons tot de aankomende generatie moeten richten om een blijvende mentaliteitsverandering te bereiken.

We nemen dit initiatief ter gelegenheid van de 10e verjaardag van GIN. Als we terugkijken, kunnen we tevreden zijn over de manier waarop ons werk zich verder heeft ontwikkeld in die periode. De voorbije 10 jaar hebben we met succes duizenden honden kunnen redden en een thuis kunnen geven, met de hulp van vele Spaanse vrijwilligers die primair reddingswerk uitvoeren en de plaatsingsgroepen en individuele personen in Europa die met ons sympathiseren en in eigen land adoptie promoten. We konden dit enkel doen dankzij de buitengewone vrijgevigheid van jullie, onze sympathisanten.

Bij ons in het Verenigd Koninkrijk riep de wet op de dierenbescherming van 2006 op tot een nieuw regelgevend systeem en regelgeving op het gebied van het welzijn van de dieren bij hondenrennen. De nieuwe raad van bestuur zal "Greyhound Board of Great Britain" worden genoemd, bevindt zich in de oprichtingsfase en zou begin 2009 operationeel moeten zijn. We wachten op de nieuwe regelgevingen die binnenkort ter inzage zullen liggen. Het "Greyhound Forum", waar GIN lid van is, heeft voorlopige voorstellen ingediend. We kunnen enkel hopen dat ze in regelgevingen zullen worden omgezet.

Cari Amici,

È con piacere e gratitudine che vi informiamo che i gruppi in Belgio, Francia, Italia e Slovenia con cui stiamo cooperando da tempo continuano a dare casa ai galgos che riusciamo ad aiutare in Spagna. Ora lavoriamo anche con un altro gruppo in Francia, Association de Sauvetage des Lévriers, gestito da Jacqueline e Max, che ci stanno aiutando cercando di sistemare i galgos di Vic; inoltre siamo ancora in grado di trovare nuove case per i galgos in Svizzera grazie a Manuela dell’associazione Lévriers Swiss Adoptions.

Abbiamo anche continuato ad assistere i rifugi in Spagna per tutto l’anno inviando diversi pacchi contenenti cappotti, coperte, ciotole, medicine, ecc., gentilmente donati dai nostri sostenitori.

Come menzionato nel nostro ultimo Messaggio Europeo, da qualche tempo stiamo cercando di organizzare un programma educativo in Spagna mirato a bambini in età scolastica, allo scopo di cercare di far comprendere che tutti gli animali sono esseri senzienti con le loro necessità e che i galgos spagnoli si trovano in una situazione estremamente difficile.

Il programma inizierà su piccola scala e presto saranno disponibili le prime stesure dei materiali educativi; ciò ci darà modo di discutere l’intero programma in dettaglio con i nostri colleghi spagnoli, molti dei quali dedicano la vita a salvare gli animali bisognosi; sono proprio questi gli individui che cerchiamo di aiutare. L’esperienza di molti gruppi che si occupano del benessere degli animali ci insegna che se si vogliono conseguire risultati che durano nel tempo è necessario rivolgersi alle nuove generazioni.

È nostra intenzione contrassegnare il 10° anniversario di GIN con questa iniziativa. Guardando al passato fa piacere vedere il volume di lavoro che è stato svolto. Negli ultimi 10 anni siamo riusciti a salvare e trovare casa a diverse migliaia di cani grazie all’aiuto di molti volontari spagnoli che svolgono principalmente attività di soccorso e dei gruppi e gli individui che cercano una casa per i cani in tutta Europa e che, in linea con il nostro lavoro, promuovono l’adozione nei loro paesi. Questo è stato possibile grazie alla straordinaria generosità dei nostri sostenitori.

Qui nel Regno Unito la Legge sugli Animali del 2006 ha richiesto un nuovo sistema normativo e nuove norme per la regolamentazione delle corse dei cani. Il nuovo ente governativo, che è in corso di formazione, si chiamerà Greyhound Board of Great Britain e dovrebbe essere operativo dall’inizio del 2009. Siamo in attesa delle nuove norme che saranno presto oggetto di consultazione. Il Greyhound Forum, di cui GIN è membro, ha presentato una bozza delle proposte che speriamo vengano implementate.
