Picnic in the Park

Sunday 13th July 2008 was another of those days when visitors to Virginia Water Lake looked quite astonished to see so many Galgos and Greyhounds together in one place. Shortly after 11 a.m.  the earlier arrivals set off beside the lake followed by more and more owners and hounds as they gradually arrived.

A great deal of chatter could be heard as old friends caught up with news of the progress of their dogs since last year’s event. Some owners were attending for the first time and it is always good to see a Galgo who has progressed so well since leaving quarantine thanks to lots of TLC and patience by their proud owners.

On arrival at the chosen area close to the totem pole it was good to sit and enjoy picnic lunches – humans and hounds of course!. After the unsettled weather leading up to the event we were really grateful that is was dry with sunshine.  It goes without saying that after lunch in true greyhound manner most hounds took advantage of nice comfortable rugs to take an afternoon “nap” under the shade of the trees but they also managed some fun time.

Martin said a few words of thanks to all who came along and mentioned that it was the first annual picnic since we lost Arthur who we were sure was with us in spirit.

All packed up we made our way back to the car park, said our goodbyes and made our way to our homes, tired but happy.
