Greyhound Memorial Day in Belgium – 27th JulyIn Alabama, in 2002, a mass grave of shot ex-racing greyhounds was discovered. They had been sent from Florida for disposal. Greyhound rescue groups in many countries have dedicated this July weekend to the memory of these and all greyhounds and galgos everywhere who have suffered when their usefulness is over. Regular visitors to the GIN website will have seen many articles and photos of transportations of galgos helped by GIN, being flown from Barcelona, Alicante and Malaga to Brussels to be homed by Josephine and her group, Greyhounds Rescue Belgium. Here you can see some of the photos taken last Sunday in Belgium when over 400 people and their dogs (galgos from Spain and greyhounds from Ireland) came together for a walk near the beach. They received a blessing from the priest, and then, as in previous years, hundreds of tagged blue balloons were released in memory of the greyhounds. Photos from GRB
